Lync federation enables organizations to communicate, collaborate and share presence information using the Lync client.
When organizations use Office 365 as their Lync provider instead of Arkadin, they may not have Federation enabled by default. In order to setup federation with a partner on the Office 365 Lync platform federation will likely need to be enabled on both platforms.
To enable Federation on the Arkadin platform:
- Follow the guidance at https://chinookcommunications.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203814350-Configuring-Lync-Federation .
To enable Federation in Office 365:
- Log in to your Office 365 Admin Portal
- Click on Admin > Lync
- Click on Organizations > External Communication
- Under External Access select On except for blocked domains or Only for allowed domains and add the domain to the Allowed Domains list below
- Click Save
The Office 365 partner organization now has federation enabled and may add users from the Arkadin Lync organization to their contact list.
