Changing the music that callers hear when placed on hold

Brian Hadfield -

The music that is played while a caller is placed on hold during a Lync call is configured from within the Lync 2010 client.  The music is generated from a file located on the local workstation and referenced in the Play music on hold section of the Ringtones and Sounds in Lync - Options.

NOTE:  Before setting up your custom on-hold music, you must have a Windows Media file with the extension .WMA copied to a directory on the local workstation that can be browsed from the Lync client.

  1. In Lync, click the Options icon
  2. Select Tools | Options from the Options menu.
  3. In the left pane of the Lync - Options dialog box, click Ringtones and Sounds.
  4. If the logged-in account is enabled for Enterprise Voice, the bottom option should be Play music on hold.  Click Browse... and then select the file you'd like to play for people you put on hold.
