Configure a POP client

Although Microsoft Outlook is the preferred client to access Chinook Communications Exchange services, a number of POP clients can be used to connect to a Chinook Communications mailbox to retrieve email.

Since all POP clients have a slightly different configuration, it would be impossible to provide instructions for all clients but the following settings should provide the information required to configure any POP client.  Specific configuration guidance for configuring Outlook to connect via POP is provided below.

POP Settings

  • Server Type: POP3
  • Server Name: webmail.partnerhosted.com
  • User Name: Your email address
  • Password: Your password
  • Port: 995
  • Use Encrypted Connection (SSL): Enabled
  • Authentication Type: Auto

 

SMTP Settings

  • SMTP Server: webmail.partnerhosted.com
  • Return Address: Your email address
  • User Name: Your email address
  • Password: Your password
  • Port: 25 or 587
  • User Encrypted Connection (SSL): Enabled
  • Authentication: Auto
  • Use Start TLS: Enabled

 

Configuring Outlook 2010 for POP

  1. Install and launch Outlook 2010
  2. If this is the first account to be configured, the wizard will begin automatically, click Next.  If you are configuring a secondary account click File | Account Information | Add Account and proceed to step 3.

  1. You will see the add account dialog box, select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.

  1. Select Internet E-mail and click Next.

  1. On the Add New Account dialog page enter the following information from the settings at the top of the page, but DO NOT click Next yet.
    • Your Name
    • Email Address
    • Incoming mail server
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
    • User Name
    • Password

  1. After providing the information above, click on the More Settings button to configure the Internet Email Settings.

  1. In the Internet Email Settings dialog, make the following changes then click OK to return to the previous dialog box.
    • Server Port Numbers
      • Incoming server (POP3): 995
      • This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): Enabled
      • Use the following type of encrypted connection: Auto

  1. Click the Next button in the Add New Account dialog box to continue.
  2. You will see the Test Account Settings dialog as the client attempts to connect to the server.

  1. If successful you should see a Your e-mail account is successfully configured message in the Add New Account dialog box.  Click Finish to complete the configuration.
